About Uttarkashi

Located at an altitude of 1558 meters, the proximity of Uttarkashi to Gangotri makes it an important tourist destination. However, Uttarkashi is primarily a temple town in its own right, and more than that it is the town of Lord Shiv.

Uttarkashi is the hub of activity in the district: provisions that have to go to higher reaches of the mountains go from here; people who are visiting Gangotri usually break their journey to take a night's rest; trekking and mountaineering enthusiasts use it as a base, or to visit the nearby Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM).

Maneri
Roughly 13 km upstream of Uttarkashi is the village of Maneri. Here, a lake – of an unbelievably beautiful and clear color reflecting the surrounding conifers-- has been formed by damming the Bhagirathi, which is fast becoming a popular tourist attraction. The Maneri-Bhali project, which supplies 93 MW of power to Uttarakhand, is located on the left bank of Bhagirathi, close to Uttarkashi.

Chardham Opened from 16th May onwards with the opening of Yamunotri and Gangotri Temples. Kedarnath opened on 18th May and Badrinath on 19th May. Leisure Hotels Plans to encourage its guest to plant trees.
