Press Release - TIES
Corbett Hideaway Receives TIES Award For Its Contribution
To Eco-Tourism Leisure Hotels Ltd has been awarded the
prestigious membership of The International Ecotourism Society
(TIES), USA, for its eco-friendly luxury resort The Corbett
Hideaway. Situated on the fringes of the Corbett National Park,
The Corbett Hideaway is one of the most preferred resorts for
both domestic and international travellers to Uttaranchal.
This was proved during an auction of holiday destinations held
by TIES at The Carnegie Institution in Washington. Titled '
Tigers and River Ganges', the holiday package
of 10 days for two at Corbett Hideaway was bought by Mr. Andres
Velthaus who chose the property over several other international
destinations offered at the auction.
The Corbett Hideaway stands out among the wilds of the Corbett
National Park because of the burnt red of its cottages forming a
restful backdrop to verdant environs. Staying at Corbett
Hideaway is luxury personified. With its sloping tiled roofs,
cool stone floors with throw rugs, block wood furniture and
other details allow maximum comfort while continuing the
illusion of being in the wilds; the accent is clearly on nature.
The 52 guest rooms have a clever area separation for sleeping
and for living, as in a suite. You get a sense of miles of extra
space. Double roomed suites are available for groups and
families.
Apart from a hundred and seventy six mango trees, you can see
at the Hideaway a bountiful jackfruit tree near the reception,
variegated bamboo including sacaram, bushes of hibiscus,
rainflower, gandharaja, ticoma, raat ki rani, haemilia, azalea
and guava trees which yield fruit three times a year!
A tennis court on the sprawling lawns gives way to the swimming
pool with its languid blue waters; very therapeutic after a
rigorous safari. The poolside bar offers you the freedom of
enjoying a beer as you float. Even greater relaxation techniques
are available close by - at the in-house spa, where massage
therapy by trained masseurs is a great attraction amongst all
our guests.
By the time you've worked up a wild appetite, your sense of
smell will lead you to the Gol Ghar, the thatched outdoor
restaurant which lays out magnificent breakfasts, lunches and
dinners. (The nights are generally wilder, with bonfires,
entertainment and bonhomie). The resort serves excellent
continental food and Indian cuisine. And a great variety of it
all! The specialities of the Kumaoni region are a favourite
feature on the menu. The emphasis is on freshness of
produce.(Remember to ask for minestrone soup, which is a wee bit
spicy but lip smacking. And the chicken kakori kababs that give
your palate exciting information on gourmet cooking!)
To add to a holistic experience of being in the wilds, the
resort's nature shop provides you with charming souvenirs and
memorabilia and also stocks herbal cosmetics and fascinating
local crafts.
About Leisure Hotels As one of the largest and
oldest players in Uttaranchal's tourism sector, Leisure Hotels
Ltd has always strived to promote eco-tourism in the region by
encouraging responsible travel to areas of natural
bio-diversity. We enhance the experience by:
- providing highly personalized services
- encouraging the understanding and appreciation of the
immediate eco-system
- implementing the best practices available for
ecologically sustainable tourism
- contributing in the ongoing conservation of the natural
areas and
- creating awareness by taking up regular forestation and
plantation drives
Also, the organization has done a constructive contribution
to 'rural eco-tourism' by sourcing all produce required for the
kitchen locally, like dairy products & vegetables; using
locally available resources and manpower for thoughtful and eco
friendly landscaping that gels with the natural surroundings and
promoting local handicrafts to provide employment to the local
communities. This is aimed to increase their disposable income,
which in turn helps in lowering their dependence on the
immediate forest resources like water, fodder, grass & fuel.
TIES All these efforts have been appreciated by TIES,
which is the largest and oldest ecotourism organization in the
world dedicated to generating and disseminating information
about ecotourism. Founded in 1990, it currently has members in
more than 80 countries. Representing a worldwide network of
academics, consultants, conservation professionals,
organizations, governments and travellers, the Society is the
only non-profit organization which provides guidelines,
standards, research, training and technical assistance to
promote responsible international ecotourism. TIES has also been
named as the world's preeminent ecotourism organization by The
Wall Street Journal in 1998.
