FORT UNCHAGAON: Where history is
a living experience
Fort Unchagaon is a living witness of ancient glamour and
valour. It was inherited by the present Raja Surendra Pal Singh
at the age of ten. The young prince put substantive efforts to
develop and maintain this ancestral property. The Singh family
was Jat zamindars who received the Fort from the British in
1859, for loyalty during the first Indian war of Independence.
The young heir took personal interest in the maintenance and
preservation of this ancestral residence. This palace was
renovated under his guidance and this is evident in the
influence of early 20th century blend of Indian and colonial
architecture. Being the private domicile of a prince, the décor
is authentically aristocratic.
