Tourism in Himalayas can never be complete without a visit
to the beautiful hill-station of Kausani. The beauty of the
place is simply incomparable. Originally called Valna, the
Kumaon Hill region of Kausani has long been known for its
idyllic beauty with the huge mountains silhouetted against the
sky. This Himalayan locale has some fabulous vantage points
that offer a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains and
the green valleys.
Natural beauty apart, Kausani also boasts of some historical
memories down the lane. In 1929, Mahatma Gandhi spent 12 days
here and brought his thoughts out in his book called Anasakti
Yoga. The place where he stayed is called the Anasakti Ashram.
The Ashram now houses an excellent library- a wonderful
retreat for book lovers and is thus a major crowd puller.
A little away from the Kausani bus stand is the Pant museum,
named after the Hindi poet Sumitra Nandan Pant. The museum is
actually the poet's house of his childhood days. His articles
of daily use, drafts of his poems, letters, awards etc. are
displayed here.
The Lakshmi Ashram, a center run by women engaged in social
service, lies a kilometer away from the Anasakti Ashram in the
midst of a dense jungle. This is the place where Gandhiji's
disciple, Sarala Behen, spent her life in social service
activities.
Kausani offers the magic of the deep pine forests and the
majestic mountains. This is also the birthplace of Sumitra
Nandan Pant, who often referred to Kausani as the 'Switzerland
of India'. Situated amidst mountains and trees, the peaks of
Trishul and Nanda Devi are clearly visible from this alluring
Uttarakhand hill station. No wonder, Kausani attracts
thousands of tourists throughout the year, thus taking
Uttarakhand tourism to new heights. |
