River Rafting in The Ganges

This adventure sport is a never-ending thrill in the untamed waters that flow past Camp 5 Elements. For here, the river Ganga cuts against the rocky banks, crashes into rocks and breaks into white water rapids, foaming, swirling amidst a thunderous din. From the camp, you can raft down about 30 kms till Rishikesh through grade 1 rapids like Sweet Sixteen and grade 4 rapids like The Wall. As you journey down, Alakananda and Bhagirathi meet Ganga at Devprayag, frothing from their racy descent and testing your adventure skills to the extreme.

Not just that, as you go along, you can rest a while on sandy beaches bordered by oak, pine, spruce and fir trees. And if you are really lucky, you may also catch deer, monkeys, and leopards drinking water.

In case you are wondering, you don't have to know how to swim in order to enjoy rafting. But what you wear for it is important. Bathing suits, shorts, t-shirts, and old tennis shoes or river sandals are perfect. But carry a change of clothes with you. For you are going to get wet and have the time of your life doing so! What's more the best thing about rafting is that everybody can do it. Usually, 14 is the minimum age limit. And under normal health conditions, there is no upper age limit. At Camp 5 elements, our aim is to make sure everyone has fun. To that end, we even have several trip options that you can choose from. So that, at the end of it all, your experience is unique to you and only you.

Grading of Rapids

Rapids are graded from Class I to Class VI depending on the degree of difficulty they present in successfully manoeuvring a white water craft (raft/kayak/canoe/) through it.

Grade I : Relax and chill out.
Grade II : Keep an eye open for small waves.
Grade III: This will be fun - tighten your lifejackets and helmets.
Grade IV: Getting serious ; paddle well or you could end up swimming.
Grade V : Don't mess up - this is the hardest stuff you can raft.
Grade VI : If you are told you are rafting grade 6, your guide is lying - this is suicide!!
