Horse Safaris
A horse safari is a unique experience for those who would
combine the pleasures of long distance horse riding with a
love for the wild and the thrill of the Indian forest. An
adventure, which allows you to experience Indian wildlife,
scenery and culture at close quarters. Horse and rider become
one with the environment - sharing the same sights, scents,
sounds and excitement of the wilderness.
The Horse Safari in Corbett National Park, along the
mountain ridges, provides an opportunity to experience local
cultures, interact with the locals and understand the
traditions and rituals of the simple hill communities. There
are areas of dense Baanjh, Oak and Rhododendron forests,
punctuated by pristine mountain streams and waterfalls. The
trails are through thick forests and along high ridges, which
provide panoramic views of the Himalayas. Apart from the
views, which are spectacular, there is much to do. The forests
contain a variety of avifauna; such as Kaleeje, Chir and
Koklas Pheasants, Minivets, Orioles, Redbilled Blue Magpie,
Whitecrested Laughing Thrush, and Spotted Forktail including
birds of prey like Lammergeier and Himalayan Griffon.
The first phase of the ride is easy, through thick
peripheral reserve forests of Sal. Canter or gallop on the
soft tracks and the opportunity to stop and examine whatever
catches your fancy, is always there. Camping sites provide all
the magic of the Jungle, the nocturnal sounds, bright lit
skies and tales around a crackling camp fire, all make a heady
cocktail.
The second phase of the ride begins the ascent into the
hills. It provides the thrilling adventure of an uphill climb
on narrow bridle paths, breathtaking views across growing
hills, valleys and gorges and the changing vegetation at every
turn.
The Horse
Marwari - the desert horse of Rajasthan, are
brought young and reared in the hills. Its dexterity in
negotiating the narrow bridle paths in the hills - every
manoeuvre so safe and simple, has to be experienced to be
believed. The exotic beauty and vigour of the Marwari Horse is
its lasting heritage as it was bred to lift the heart in battle
and please the eye in peace.
The Characteristics
Marwari Horse is easily recognized
by its proud carriage, upright graceful neck and distinctive
aquiline head with deep expressive eyes. The crowning glory of
Marwari horses are the unique perky lyre shaped ears meeting at
the tips. It is, without exception, unique to the noble Indian
horse.
The intelligence and natural regal bearing of the Marwari horse
is blended with tremendous equipoise, graceful animated gaits
and stamina. The Marwari horse displays an alert stillness when
in repose and incredible élan, vital in action. Hardiness
