One of the finest tiger habitats in India, the Jim Corbett National Park nestles in the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. With its varied topography, diverse flora and fauna and the natural splendor of its landscapes, the Corbett Park is a precious heritage.

Established in 1936, this renowned tiger reserve was known as the Hailey National Park. It was later renamed after Jim Corbett, the famous hunter, author and pioneer conservationist who helped establish this wildlife sanctuary. At present, this national park encompasses an area of about 520 sq. kms whish houses the vast reservoir formed by the Kalagarh dam across the river Ramganga. It is one of the best managed protected areas in the country, attracting thousand of visitors each year.

The Corbett National Park is the home of some exclusive wildlife vanishing species. It’s rare and splendid biodiversity fills you with great awe. The jungle houses around 580 species of birds including water fowl, 17 types of woodpecker, raptors like the Pallas fishing eagle, harriers and kites, peafowl, kalij pheasant, the rare chir pheasant, red jungle fowl, minivets, shrikes, cuckoos, drongos and barbets. Thick cover of sal trees, unabated growth of lantana bushes, and dense long grass beckon you to unfold the mysteries of wildlife.

As you wander through the forest, you can come across the museum of the hunting legend, Jim Corbett, on its outskirts at a place called Kaladhungi. Surrounding this dwelling is a tiny village called ‘Chhota Haldwani’, a part of which Corbett bought out of his own savings and gifted to the villagers.
