Leisure Hotels adds Skiing at Auli as a new attraction in
Chardham (Joshimath) visit Located in the cradle of
snow-capped mountains, Auli is is an ideal skiing destination in
India which is fast becoming a hotspot for adventure seekers,
with its slopes comparable to the best in the world. The chilly
cold winds, the vast snow-covered landscape, the sylvan
mountains, all add up to make Auli a skier's paradise. At a
distance of 16 kms from Joshimath, on the Badrinath route, the
slopes of Auli are as high as 9,000 feet above sea level,
covered with dense deodar and oak forests. The slopes offer a
panoramic view of many a famous Himalayan peaks like Dronagiri,
Kamet, Barmal, Mana, Haathi-Ghori-Palki, Muket, Barthartoli,
Neelkanth and Nanda Devi.
This year, Leisure Hotels is providing an exciting option of
skiing at Auli coupled with a stay at its popular Chardham camp
in Joshimath. The jig-back ropeway system, connecting Joshimath
to Auli is the longest, second highest and operates at an
altitude of 6,000 to 10,200 feet. It takes approx 20 minutes to
get its passengers to Auli at a speed of 3-4 m/sec and operates
from 8 am to 3.30 pm in the winters and 4.30 pm in summers (last
ride up), and the charge is Rs 400 per person right through the
year.

conditions for skiing are perfect at Auli. Skiers can enjoy
almost 20 km of virgin slopes, which provide excellent
opportunities for cross-country, slalom (zigzag between
obstacles) and down-hill skiing events."
As part of its Joshimath-Auli package, Leisure Hotels provides
skiing board, skiing sticks, skiing pads, snow shoes, helmet and
a skiing instructor. One must carry skiing trouser, gloves,
heavy woollens, wind proof jackets, dark glasses if possible
with straps to tie them and torch with extra pair of batteries.
The best time to visit Auli via Joshimath is from December to
March because, as the winters set in, the mountains seem to
extend to the firmament with arms of snow.
